QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain), NDP critic for Children, Community, and Social Services, renewed her call for the creation of a missing persons alert for vulnerable persons, after a family from Havelock endured a harrowing search for a lost loved one.
Taylor was joined by the family of Logan, a young boy with autism who was missing for over 2 weeks while his family, community, and local law enforcement frantically searched. A missing vulnerable persons alert could have aided the search for Logan and brought him home sooner.
“No one should have to endure the stress that the Tozer family felt when their son went missing,” said Taylor. “The Ontario NDP’s legislation – Bill 74 - would give local authorities an extra tool in their toolkit to help bring missing loved ones home safely. It’s a common sense, non-partisan proposal, and it’s something that we need to pass immediately to keep our loved ones safe.”
Taylor’s Bill 74 would give law enforcement the ability to put out targeted, local alerts when a vulnerable person goes missing, whether they’re a senior with Alzheimer’s or an adult with autism. The bill has been long-delayed by the Conservatives, with little explanation.
“Let’s do the right thing today,” said Taylor. “For Logan and his family, let’s get this tool in action. Let’s get this passed”.
