Ontario NDP nominates Debbie Chapman as candidate in Kitchener Centre

KITCHENER – Marit Stiles’ Ontario NDP is thrilled to announce the nomination of Debbie Chapman as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election in Kitchener Centre.

Chapman is an instructor at Wilfred Laurier University and has served as the City Councillor for Kitchener’s Ward 9 since 2018. She is a dedicated community builder in Kitchener and has a proven track record of securing wins for her community. Chapman was chosen as the NDP candidate at an exciting nomination meeting alongside 175 community members, NDP Leader Marit Stiles and the riding’s outgoing MPP Laura Mae Lindo.

“I am thrilled to welcome Debbie as the NDP candidate for the people of Kitchener Centre,” said Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP. “Debbie will be an exceptional advocate for the people of Kitchener Centre, and a tremendous asset to our strong NDP team at Queen’s Park.”

“I am honoured to be chosen as the Ontario NDP candidate in Kitchener Centre," Chapman said. "I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced in our community, brought on by years of underinvestment by the Ford government. I’m running because I know that a better Ontario is possible. I’m excited for the chance to join the strong Official Opposition team and bring our community’s voice to Queen’s Park. I know that together, we can win more for our community, and people across the province.”

“This by-election is a chance for Kitchener Centre to not only continue strong NDP representation with a committed community-builder, but to send Doug Ford a message: enough is enough,” said Stiles. “Debbie is ready to hit the ground running with us and win more for the people of Kitchener Centre. I am excited for the chance to have her join Catherine on our amazing NDP team in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region.”
